Discussion Post Week 6

Examine the uses of copyright, today we talked about fair use, and how to properly use copyright laws so that you can use other peoples work for the right intent, and not get in trouble or be copyrighting some one else's work. I think that fair use is a very good idea, that way people who created content can have their ideas spread and used by other people, but they still receive credit and no one profits it off but them. Although, because there are so many active users on the internet and there are so many people copyrighting every single day,  I could see how people could easily get away with not following fair use, and getting away with copyrighted material. Even though the laws of copyright can sometimes be complicated, I am glad that copyright laws exist so that people can get credit for their ideas. I definitely think that if I posted or wrote something, I would want the credit for it. Attached here , is an article that is very clear about fair use and the certain laws that it follows. This article is from the U.S. copyright office and states the legal definition of fair use.

    I agree that fair use is good for the practice of spreading ideas, but also think it is hard to rely on fair use for protection, as it does not always protect you when using someone else’s work. I am on the same side as you in regards to copyright laws. If I created something and shared it on Instagram, YouTube, or really anything, I would want my art to be protected from other users.

Discussion Week Seven

This week we completed our group presentations, and all six groups shared their presentations about the examples they found of group collaboration. I liked how every group was very unique, it made the presentations much more interesting and I loved watching all the different things that people came up with. Another factor of the presentation is the they were all about the five stages of group development. It was interesting that as we were examining the parts of group development, as our groups were developing as well. Each individual is good at something, and when we were working together, all of our strengths came together so that people could do what they felt best helped the group. Each group needs someone to drive the group, to do the actual work of the assignment and presenting. I think that my group was very successful because we combined all of talents to make and present our website,  School of Collaboration .

Discussion Week 9

Anika Sands October 19,2017 ESOC 211 Professor Daly This week, we looked at the article, "how to make gaming more collaborative and less toxic" . I thought that this article was very interesting for two reasons. First of all, the researcher studied neuroscience at the University of Washington, and worked in Bellevue, Washington which is where I'm from. Also, the experiment that they did had lots of factors that had never been researched before. I think that they picked a great game to do the experiment on, (League of Legends) because of the type of people that play the game, and also the collaborative based format of the game. Discussion Post One

Even during my first class in E-society 211, I feel like I learned a lot of new things about my major (e-society) and about social media that I didn't know before. I am super excited for this class and to start learning more about online communications and collaborations. The first article that we were assigned for reading was all about online collaboration. The article focused on trying to come up with a more accurate definition for what online collaboration is, and isn't. There are certain words that explain it better than others. An important piece of understanding online collaboration is that social media (Facebook, Instagram) and so on... are not online collaborations. There are too many people that joined for too many different reasons.
