In our class on Tuesday, we discussed an article about the best ways that collaboration and group work happen. The article, "What really makes teams work" by Geoff Colvin examines the different ways that teams can maximize their potential and work together. There was a lot of interesting information in this article that surprised me.
Some interesting facts about collaboration is that it is usually best in person. Using texts or over the phone communicate, it can be hard to determine someone's tone. This often leads to misinterpretation and during in person conversations it is much easier to work together and understand what the people in your group are contributing. An interesting fact that goes along with this is, research shows that if you have already collaborated with your team and communicate with them online, it is much more productive than people who have never met in person collaborating online. I thought this was important data found in the research because it shows that in order to collaborate better, you have to start with a face to face interaction with someone. Even though we have advanced so much in our digital age, human interaction in person is still just as important as it was when technology was not as interactive as it is today.
For more information on similar studies, I have this link here. This article looks at psychology and science behind team intelligence.
